What is esports?

Esports refers specifically to organised and competitive video gaming, often at a professional or semi-professional level, where players compete individually or in teams against other players, often at events with both live and online audiences.

It is one of the fastest growing and most exciting new industries in the world, with a global community of hundreds of millions actively playing, competing or watching esports every year.

The UK has all the right ingredients to make it one of the best places in the world to play and watch esports. And we’re already pretty good at it, with a fast growing grass roots scene and major events now being held in venues throughout the UK.

What does Ukie esports do?

We support our esports members through:

• Promoting the opportunities of esports –  Whether they are politicians, brands or schools, we make sure that as many people as possible are aware of the opportunities that esports present through events, media appearances and high level meetings 
• ​Influencing policy – We represent the esports sector to policy makers, shaping the sector’s position on big issues such as immigration, player and fan well-being, regulation and skills​
• Insight and Research - Evidence lies at the heart of what Ukie esports does. We produce thought leadership papers like our ‘Esports Whitepaper’ and academic studies such as our ‘Esports: Engaging Education. We are also undertaking the first ever economic research to measure the economic impact of esports in the UK.
• Improving access to talent and growing grassroots participation  – Our Digital Schoolhouse esports Tournament reaches 6000 children a year, educating them about careers in esports and the wider entertainment sector
• Networking - We are the biggest network of esports businesses in the UK. Our esports group meets regularly to discuss key issues and give members the chance to meet up with other esports partners.
