Mermaids

  • Mermaids is the longest running UK charity supporting transgender and gender diverse young people, their families and professionals who support them. Our work continues because trans and gender-variant children and teens still face significant challenges and need support and understanding as well as space to explore their gender identity. We also work to educate wider society on gender identity by working with professionals, government and third sector organisations.

    Our services:

    • Helpline and web chat available Mon-Fri 9am-9pm
    • Information and support service
    • Online parents and young people’s (age 12-19) forums, with 1700+ and 800+ members respectively.
    • Local meet up groups nationwide for face to face support
    • Residential weekends for whole families
    • Legal support with dedicated caseworker
    • Campaigning, research and advocacy
    • Training in schools, social services and other agencies supporting trans children, young people and their families.
    • Participation in over 180 events nationwide with a focus on engaging service users directly to attend, learn, explore and boost confidence and self-esteem.
