Creative Industries £60m boost

The Government has announced a £60 million support package to turbocharge growth in the UK’s creative industries. This includes £5.5 million for start-up video game studios and further funding for British music and film exports, and creative businesses outside London, alongside increased funding for the sector through the British Business Bank.

Ukie CEO Nick Poole commented:

"After concerted lobbying by Ukie, including direct conversations with Ministers and senior officials, we are encouraged by the Government's commitment to supporting the creative industries through maintaining funding for the UK Games Fund and increased investment via the British Business Bank as part of the Industrial Strategy.

Video games sit at the heart of the UK’s creative economy, driving rapid growth, supporting over 73,000 jobs, and delivering cultural and economic value worldwide.

We urge the Government to continue working closely with the UK’s video games sector to unlock its full potential, enabling the creation of IP and economic value that captivates global audiences and ensures the UK remains a leader in creativity and innovation."

This announcement marks an important step toward delivering the Sector Plan as part of the government’s modern Industrial Strategy, and Ukie is proud to have championed this progress."
