Ukie Submission to the government spending review 2025

How the UK Games Industry Can Create 6,000 New Jobs and Add £479m to the Economy

Ukie has commissioned a major new report with Nordicity as part of our submission to the Government’s Spending Review 2025, making the case for bold reforms to the Video Games Expenditure Credit (VGEC). The findings are clear: with the right support, the UK video games industry could create nearly 6,000 new jobs and add £479 million in annual economic value, ensuring the UK remains a world leader in game development.

The UK has the talent, creativity, and ambition to lead the global games industry, but without action, we risk losing investment to countries with more competitive tax incentives. That’s why Ukie is calling for:

🎮 A ‘games growth’ rate of 53% for projects with budgets under £10m to support smaller studios and drive innovation.
🎮 An increase to 39% for larger projects and the removal of the restrictive 80% cap on qualifying expenditure to unlock further investment.
